This building was erected between 1607 and 1610 as a town palace for the monastery of Kremsmünster in the style of the Como school by Francesco Silva. It was then enlarged and redesigned from 1673-75. The festive hall contains remnants of frescoes by Jakob Antonio Mazza. Between 1710 and 1786 the building served as a seminary for young men from Scandinavia (hence the name Nordico). Then in 1851 it was converted into residential accomodations and business premises. From 1959-73 it was given a general renovation and expanded to form the City Museum (special exhibitions throughout the year concerning the history, art and cultural history of the city, as well as about "foreign” cultures and interactive fauna and flora exhibitions).
