“Thank you for the hall” – wrote the Russian star conductor Valery Gergiev in the guest book of the Brucknerhaus after a celebrated concert. His enthusiasm is shared by internationally and nationally renowned artists from classical music, contemporary music and jazz, who have given guest performances in the concert house on the Danube designed by the Finnish architects Kaija and Heikki Siren. Highlights in September: the Linz Clouds of Sound, the Ars Electronica Festival (in cooperation with the Ars Electronica Center), and the three-week Bruckner Festival with its innovatively wrapped “classically different” program package.

His contemporaries laughed at the “giant head on two legs” - regardless of the fact that the man so ridiculed had already celebrated triumphs before thousands of listeners in London and Paris as a gifted organ virtuoso. And although Anton Bruckner was undoubtedly of an extremely compact and small stature, the footprints of the great symphonic composer (1824-1896) cannot be overlooked even up to in present (not only) in his home region of Upper Austria. They lead far beyond the active interest and lively performance practice of his compositional work. In Linz not only the Brucknerhaus and the Bruckner Orchestra are named after him, but also one of the four universities in Linz bears the name of the most important Upper Austrian composer.
Over 850 students are instructed at the Anton Bruckner Private University. As a leading vocational institution, the university is one of five Austrian universities for music, acting and dance.
