Art and Culture in Linz

Linz offers a broad spectrum of culture events and a considerable number of cultural institutions. The events are especially remarkable for being diverse, innovative and varied.
In 2009, Linz was the European Capital of Culture. More than 2.5 million people took this opportunity to get to know the cultural qualities of the city. Several newly constructed cultural venues reinforce Linz`s image as a dynamic city of culture and industry.

The Bruckner Festival and the Ars Electronica Festival enjoy international reputation and have characterisedthe cultural image of Linzfor many years.The open-air multimedia musical event Klangwolke (sound cloud) is an example for the broad and active participation of the citizens in the cultural life of their city.

For over 25 years, the street art festival Pflasterspektakel has been the highlight of the cultural summer programme of Linz. The LINZFESTat Pentecost offers the citizens an ambitious cultural programme for free, thus contributing to granting them access to local cultural institutions.
