The two markets are connected by the Landstrasse – the shopping mile of Linz – which is lit up at Christmas time with a modern dream world of lights.
The Christmas lights were designed by the masterclass of the Salzburg Mozarteum under the motto “Foam of the Danube – Dream of Lights”. Since 1993 this unusual show of lights has magically transformed the shopping streets of Linz and the Nibelungen Bridge.

An angel on the Nibelungen Bridge sucks water through a straw from the Danube, which then spreads through the city as a whirl of lights. The angel blows stylized ring of foam from the Danube all the way to Landstraße.
The Christmas lights magically transform the Landstrasse – the shopping mile of Linz. Attentive observers are always discovering new details, new angels on window sills or at the tip of a mast.
The Main Square in winter provides a perfect setting for the Linz Christmas Market. The market booths are decorated with motifs of the landmarks of Linz and with their arching roofs they symbolize the waves of the Danube.

The glowing pyramids on the roofs of the huts that are connected with rods of light make a special eye-catcher at the Christmas Market in the Main Square.
In the Volksgarten the Christmas Market is all for children as a “fairy-tale Christmas”. Especially the large moving fairy-tale ensembles invariably enchant the youngest visitors. The entrances and trees in the Volksgarten decorated with nets of light and Christmas symbols seem like a fairy tale too.
