A Squared Passion for Collecting
The LENTOS Kunstmuseum Linz alone offers over 8,000 square meters of exhibition space for extensive explorations with the possiblity to take a break whenever needed. LENTOS Kunstmuseum Linz
With its international collection and changing exhibitions, the LENTOS Kunstmuseum Linz (Lentos Art Museum), which succeeded the New Gallery, is considered one of the most important museums of modern art in Austria. The spectacular new museum building on the Danube houses a collection of paintings and graphic arts of classical modernism and the present. The LENTOS Kunstmuseum Linz holds important paintings from classical modernism by Klimt, Schiele, Kokoschka, Corinth and Pechstein, which can be seen in the permanent collection along with works by Nitsch, Prachensky, Cragg and Keith Haring.
Art of the Past, Adventure of the Present, and Music of the Future
One of the most important collections of Austrian art history and folklore is located in the Schlossmuseum (Castle Museum). The largest Alfred Kubin collection in the world is at home in the Landesgalerie (State Gallery) which also exhibits classical paintings and sculptures as well as media installations by young artists. The Biology Center in Dornach is a hub of biological and scientific research and education. The NORDICO Stadtmuseum Linz (Municipal Museum Nordico) houses exhibitions which explore aspects of the history of the city of Linz, arts and crafts, socio-political topics as well as changing exhibitions on archeology and natural history. The O.K, the Upper Austrian Open House of Culture, acts as an experimental laboratory for art and accompanies contemporary artistic work from the idea through to the exhibition. And in the Museum of the Future, the Ars Electronica Center, interactive installations arouse enthusiasm with tomorrow`s high-tech.
Atelierhaus Salzamt
The international studio house Atelierhaus Salzamt, which was founded in July 2009, is a centrally located cultural venue of the City of Linz right next to the Danube.
It is bright, friendly, with big windows granting an insight into the old building. National and international artists live and work in this cultural institution in the heart of Linz.
The works of the artists are exhibited in the Salzamt`s 200-square-meter hall on the ground floor.
