Art and Culture in Linz

Linz offers a broad spectrum of culture events and a considerable number of cultural institutions. The events are especially remarkable for being diverse, innovative and varied.
In 2009, Linz was the European Capital of Culture. More than 2.5 million people took this opportunity to get to know the cultural qualities of the city. Several newly constructed cultural venues reinforce Linz`s image as a dynamic city of culture and industry.

The Bruckner Festival and the Ars Electronica Festival enjoy international reputation and have characterised the cultural image of Linzfor many years. The open-air multimedia musical event Klangwolke (sound cloud) is an example for the broad and active participation of the citizens in the cultural life of their city.

For over 27 years, the street art festival Pflasterspektakel has been the highlight of the cultural summer programme of Linz. The LINZFEST at Pentecost offers the citizens an ambitious cultural programme for free, thus contributing to granting them access to local cultural institutions.

Many other festivals and events enrich the cultural life in and around Linz.

A diverse range of cultural venues in the cityrepresent all genres. Many magnificent institutions of Linz are located on the cultural mile along the Danube through to the city centre.

The culture sectors Music, Museums/Galleries, New Media, Theatre/Dance, Literature, Independent Art Scene and Children/Youth offer an overview of the broad and diverse cultural life of Linz.
